WHO ARE WE

Hi, we're m8buy! m8buy is a social layer for ecommerce websites that aims to bring social shopping to the online world! We are a start-up that came out of the SYD3 Antler cohort in Sydney 2020. We are currently located in Sydney, and also have remote colleagues based in India.

We are very excited to have the opportunity to be expanding our engineering team. Here's a little more about what the role is and what it looks like working with us!

JOB DESCRIPTION

You’re already a skilled API, Backend or Python engineer and either have 3-5 years of work experience building APIs and integration systems or have completed person projects in the area You’re also familiar with:

• Python and/or another backend language (such as Rust, Kotlin, Node, perhaps even C++ or Java). We are at a fortunate point where we have the capability to build the tech platform around some key hires!
• Various frameworks for Data persistence, REST/websocket APIs, deployment on cloud
• Prior experience with cloud-hosted SaaS platforms (we run 95% of the platform on AWS, 5% on GCP / Firebase) is a bonus. As well as, any devops experience (we use serverless.com to automate deployments)
• E-commerce platform experience is a bonus - Shopify, BigCommerce, Squarespace, WooCommerce or even custom stack.
• Either experience of, or an interest in, data, data integration and performance concepts (data modelling, noSQL, Sharding, scaling APIs and backend file based and in-memory datastores.
• An understanding of UI/UX development specifically web platforms, on-line /offline e-commerce stores, loyalty platforms and frameworks (React, Vue, Angular etc.) and related tools such as TypeScript, Webpack, Grunt/Gulp or NPM would be beneficial.)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Day to day you'll be doing:

1. Build the m8buy platform with engineers and designers
2. Have an attitude of constant improvement on quality, speed, security and architecture as our product direction evolves
3. Hack, Design and build APIs and other backend features (e.g. real-time nudges, notifications, etc)
4. Capture key design elements in a set of minimal documents, contribute to the product backlog and new feature prioritisation meetings.

It would be awesome if you also wanted to:

1. Own part of the architecture evolution of m8buy and/or contribute to the UX design or build.
2. Have a shot at further automating and improving our use of cloud and serverless - e.g. through finer grained AWS IAM policies, better design of routing and networks, capacity management.
